Author Guidelines

1. Before you submit

  • The manuscript must be relevant to social and political issues and meet scholarly standards of objectivity and rigor.
  • It must be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere, including blogs and preprint servers (a preprint must be disclosed in the cover letter).
  • Accepted types: research articles, conceptual or theoretical papers, review articles (see Manuscript Types).
  • Read the Aims and Scope, the Authorship, Plagiarism, Conflict of Interest and Generative AI policies.
  • Language: Bahasa Indonesia or English. Authors writing in a language that is not their first are encouraged to use a language editor.

2. Manuscript structure and formatting

  • Length: 4,000–7,000 words for articles, including the title, abstract, body and references. Other types follow the lengths in Manuscript Types.
  • Title: specific and informative, no more than 14 words.
  • Authors: names without academic titles or positions, with institutional affiliation, country, email, and ORCID iD if possible for the corresponding author.
  • Abstract: 100–200 words, one paragraph, giving the aim, method, main findings and contribution; in two languages (Indonesian and English) if the manuscript is written in Indonesian. If in English, one version of English abstract is sufficient.
  • Keywords: 3–5.
  • Sections: title, authors, abstract and keywords, introduction (background and research question), theoretical framework, method, findings and discussion (this can be broken down to some subsections), conclusion, acknowledgements, declarations, references.
  • Style: essay-style prose. Do not number or letter headings. Avoid numbered lists or dot points in the text; write (1) …, (2) … in a sentence instead. The conclusion must be written in paragraphs, not points.
  • Font and layout: Book Antiqua, 11 pt, A4, using the journal template (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AKUaKiMqoaB8kHPbyC4SpJlBeN97CVjp).
  • Tables and figures: numbered, with titles, cited in the text, readable, and with the source stated. Images must be of good resolution and permission-cleared.

3. Required declarations if any (placed after the conclusion)

  1. Author contributions (CRediT).
  2. Funding statement.
  3. Declaration of competing interests.
  4. Ethical approval and informed consent for research with human participants (give the committee name and reference number, or explain the exemption).
  5. Data availability statement: where the data, interview transcripts, coding or sources can be accessed, or why they cannot be shared.
  6. Generative AI use statement: describe the tool, version and purpose, or state "No generative AI tools were used."
  7. Acknowledgements, including people who contributed but do not qualify as authors.

4. Citations and references (APA)

Use APA style with in-text (body) citations, not footnotes or endnotes. Footnotes are only for short explanatory notes. In-text: (Harrison, 2016) or (Harrison, 2016, p. 22). Every cited work must be in the reference list and vice versa. We recommend that most references are recent (ideally 80% of the references are published in the last 5 years) and from peer-reviewed sources, and that the reference list is managed with a tool such as Mendeley or Zotero.
