Abstract

Kegiatan Geni merupakan satu tradisi yang telah dilakukan oleh masyarakat di Dataran tinggi. Geni atau api menjadi faktor penting dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat. Nilai-nilai api menjadi nilai yang mempunyai banyak fungsi mulai dari fungsi ekonomi, sosial bahkan spiritual. Tradisi geni yang berkembang di masyarakat dataran tinggi tidak hanya dilakukan pada rumah tinggal vernakular tapi rumah modern juga. Tata ruang dan kelengkapan ruang menjadi faktor penentu keberhasilan tradisi Geni. Tujuan penelitian adalah menginvestigasi ruang dan pendukungnya dalam memenuhi keberhasilan tradisi kegiatan geni. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data dari observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Analisa data menggunakan metode deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rumah modern tidak terlalu kuat dalam melakukan tradisi geni akibat dari penggunaan kompor gas yang lebih banyak dibandingkan tungku api.
