Perencanaan Bahasa Keluarga (FLP) Membentuk Identitas Anak Studi Diaspora Sumatera - Yogyakarta

This study highlights the importance of Family Language Planning (FLP) as a strategic effort to shape a child’s identity within Sumatera diaspora families in Yogyakarta, particularly in preserving the mother tongue in multilingual environments. Employing a participatory observation approach, the study identifies language practices such as the use of Minang language within the family domain, video calls as a means to maintain connections with extended family, and code-switching phenomena indicating children’s linguistic adaptation in everyday communication situations. The findings reveal that FLP plays a vital role in preserving the mother tongue as a tool for cultural transmission, strengthening multicultural identity, and maintaining children’s connection to their cultural roots. This article demonstrates that FLP functions not only as a linguistic approach but also as a cultural strategy to address identity crises in diaspora families.
