Abstract

The interpretation of the Qur'an cannot be separated from the logic of the language itself. In this paper, the author is interested in analyzing the role of logical meaning relations in dealing with the problems of ta'āruḍ in the interpretation of the Qur'an. The synonymy relation, for example, avoids the problem of ta'āruḍ in interpretation, because with the logic of its substitution, synonymy does not confront one verse with another diametrically. But when are two or more language elements interpreted as synonymous? Could it be interpreted in the form of another relation?. What is the role of this meaning relation in the interpretation of the Qur'an?. The author wanted to describe the treasures of interpretation of the Qur'an in interpreting the relation of meaning of din, millah and syarī'ah. Based on the study of Tafsr al-Qur`ān al-'Azhīm by Ibn Kaṡīr, Al-Jāmi'u al-Ahkām al-Qur`ān by al-Qurṭubī, Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Hakim (Tafsir al-Manar) , by Rasyīd Riḍā, Tafsir al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab, and Jāmi'u al-Bayān 'An Ta'wīli yi al-Qur'ān by at-Ṭabarī, the author found three kinds of relation; synonymy, hyponymy, and meronymy. The synonymous relation between di>n, millah, and syarī'ah presents an inclusive interpretation of interreligious relations. The hyponymy relation shows to two kinds of interpretation, namely inclusive interpretation with total inclusion method and exclusive interpretation with partial inclusion method. The meronymy relation with the same method as the hyponymy relation also shows two kinds of interpretation, namely inclusive and exclusive interpretation.
